Oh, I uh, I see. He said, still slightly confused. Why was she suprised to talk to her own flesh and blood? Does she know about your...cancer? He asked tentativly. It pained him to even say the word. He was still on meds, checking in at the hospital once every month for a spinal tap, even though he'd gained remission. |

She knew it hurt him to say that word , it hurt her too because it brought back memories of how her mother died from it ,he almost had , and ....she thought her sister had too. Yeah, she knows.She said then changed the subject. How's Red doin?

He smiled lightly, trying to shake the fact that he had to be burdened with cancer, but Zara also. He wondered how long she'd suffered. Red's okay. He's found a friend, Louie. Jennifers gelding. Lou' has made him so much calmer, and he's kind of grown on me. He smiled at the thought of the stallion calling to him as he walked down the isle

She smiled. I'm glad.I remember when you came home and Red had the ribbon , he looked so embarrassed.She said , her eyes lite up. She made herself focus on Zack and not on the room.Hospitals scared her half to death.

Yeah, he still gets that look around any type of rope or ribbon-even his lead rope. He laughed, slowly relaxing in his chair. Maybe she was back...maybe she wouldn't forget about him and remember David. He looked up, and smiled into Zara's eyes. I love you He whispered quietly. |

He smiled, but rose quickly as his cell phone rang and vibrated in his back pocket. One second. He pulled the phone out and put it to his ear. Hello? What? He glanced at Zara and then turned away. It's got to be me? D*mn. He hung upo and turned back to Zara. I have to run back to the barn, some of the mares got into the stallion's meadow, and 2 of those mares are in season. He shook his head, leaned down, and kissed her lightly on the cheek. He rose and walked quickly out of the room, heading towards the exit. |

Zara nodded. K , good luck with that.She said and lay against the bed again , feeling dizzy suddenly. She picked up her cell phone and dialed her sister's number.

Zack jogged to his truck, and was home in 20 minutes. Three stables hands were rushing around the stallions paddock, trying to catch 3 mares running loose, while many intact males rushed eagerly to their sides. Sh*t. Zack jumped from the truck, pulled on a baseball cap, and jogged to the meadow, pulling himself over the fence. How'd this happen? He called to no one in particular. He moved quickly to his own horse, Red, and Louie, Jens horse. He grabbed both by their halters and trotted them to some stalls. Then he worked back to handle a mare. |

She hung up before Zierra answered
Half an hour later Zara sat in her bed , watching racing for a minute. The horses raced across the finish line swiftly. She changed the channel. FLipping through the channels , she heard her name on the news channel and stopped. Jocky ,Zarathustra Stripe , went down at the races. She is in the hospital currently . Originaly there was just an over night stay but stress has triggered Cancer she has had since she was nine to come back.Said a news man standing in fornt of a screen with the tape of her fall on it. She saw Zee rear up , her moved from Death Strike's daggers before she fell to the track. She spotted Zack in the crowd and the look on his face was so worried. She saw horses run over her as she rolled away until one hoof struck her head and she passed out. Zeecarian now moved infront of her , making sure no horses would hit her. Siree moved Zee as she was loaded into the ambulence. She heard the speakers in the backgroundAnd jocky number one is down. She closed her eyes and changed the channel for the look on Zack's face as she fell was too much.

Zack sat in the stall with Louie, washing out a deep cut from one of the mares. All of the stallions and mares had been separated, and the fence had been reinforced. One of the mares had taken a blow to Louies shoulder, leaving in inch deep gash with the gelding. Zack splashed some water on it, and whiped it with a cloth, before bandaging it up for the vet to check. He stood, fed the gelding a sugarcueb, and let himself out of the stall. That's a good boy. He rubbed the brute neck and turned to Red's stall.
The stallion nickered and pushed his large forehead up against the boys chest, smearing his white shirt with dirt. You need a good bath. And a shave. Spoke Zack as he ran his hand through the thick coat on the stallion's neck. It was amazing. It was summer, extremly hot out, yet the stallion still grew a thick witer coat, just to get a body clip. You are such a goof. Zack clipped a lead onto the stallion's halter and led him out to the crossties. |

Zara lay back with her cell phone in hand , trying to get up the courage to call Zierra. She dialed the number and breathed shakily as the phone rang. Zierra?Where are you?I'm right outside.

Zack brushed the stallion quickly, then set him and Louie out in a small meadow together.
The two males walked lightly together, out to the shade of the trees. The gelding lighlty lipped his shoulder, trying to rid of the white bandage. D*mn mares, who needs 'em? He mumbled in Autumns direction. The stallion laughed. I bet you didn't feel that way when you were still a stud. He teased. |

Zack walked to his truck, and climbed in, driving in towards town. He stopped at a flower shop, and picked up a bouquet of 10 white roses. He got them tied with a single, thick gold ribbon, and picked out a plan, white card. He pulled out a pen, and wrote inside;
Zara,
I love you, I can't live here without you by my side.
Get better. Soon.

He payed for the flowers, then drove his way back to the hospital. |
